Our Podiatry Team’s Favourite Blog Articles

Shaun: My favourite blog post is ‘What have we learnt about Podiatry since working at New Step Podiatry?’. I like how our admin staff and practice manager have provided insight about what our job entails and how much they have discovered what the scope of Podiatry really is. They have provided a unique perspective on the field from someone who supports it daily. It sheds light on the intricacies of the podiatry profession and helps bridge the gap between administrative and clinical understanding.

Ange: My favourite blog post is Women’s Health in Podiatry Part 3: Foot Changes in Pregnancy. I found this particularly helpful when I first started at New Step Podiatry. Having returned to work after having a baby, my feet felt different, shoes didn’t fit the same way, my orthotics felt like they weren’t in the right spot anymore and I had no idea what was going on or that this was even possible. I remember asking Cecilia about this changes and she had a “Here’s something I prepared earlier” moment and directed me to this blog post. Really informative and helpful!

Soomin: My favourite blog post is Women’s Foot Health Part 4: Menopause and 4 Ways it can Impact Feet. Women can experience so many changes in their body throughout their lifetime. I find that educating my female clients on the issues they may experience in different periods of their life is very rewarding and empowering. Menopause is a conversation topic that is becoming more well discussed and I believe it is something that is important to continue doing.

Sydney: My favourite blog post is Understanding Healthy Feet: What They Look and Feel Like. So often we focus on what it looks and feels like when something is wrong with our feet that we can forget what healthy is. I think this blog is such a useful guide for people to understand what healthy looks like, especially when we’re often only looking for something wrong. It’s refreshing to have content that focuses on when things are going well for people’s health.

Bonnie: My favourite blog post is Fun Facts About Fungus. As a podiatrist, I see and treat fungal infections almost daily. Whether it’s fungal toenails or tinea, fungal infections are incredibly common and I can appreciate that they can cause patients both discomfort and embarrassment. I wrote this blog post with the goal to de-stigmatise the condition and also emphasise the importance of awareness and early intervention, as both are key to successful treatment. It is my hope that patients feel better equipped to treat their fungal toenails/tinea infections after reading this blog post.

Cecilia: My favourite blog post is A Podiatrist’s Guide to Nail Polish Use. As a podiatrist, I frequently encounter patients who use toenail polish, and during my training, I was advised against its use. However, I always felt that this advice was overly simplistic and didn’t fully consider the nuances of individual patient needs. Due to writing this blog article myself, after an thorough review of the current evidence, I am now equipped to offer informed recommendations on whether or not nail polish is suitable for my patients and everyone who reads this article.

Georgia: My favourite blog post is Age-related changes in feet and legs. This blog is great to know what changes will happen to my feet and legs as I grow older. It’s especially helpful to know what changes are normal, and which ones are something to see your GP about!
