Administration & Reception Opportunities

Our administration team does much more than answer phones and book appointments. They keep the practice organised, support our patients and podiatrists, and play a big part in making New Step what it is.
We’re always interested in hearing from friendly, capable and organised people who think they could be a great fit for our team.

What You’ll Get to Do

This is a varied role covering reception, administration and the day-to-day running of the practice. Your responsibilities will include:

• Welcoming patients and managing appointments and enquiries.
• Processing payments and helping with day-to-day administration.
• Keeping treatment rooms ready for patients.
• Assisting with sterilisation and instrument processing.
• Supporting our podiatrists with appointment preparation, correspondence and behind-the-scenes tasks.
• Helping with stock and ordering and patient product enquiries.
• Love writing or social media? There may be opportunities to contribute to patient education, blogs, social media and our monthly patient newsletter, The NewStepper.
• Have another strength? Tell us about it. We like finding ways for people to use the skills and interests they bring to the team.

Training is provided for clinic-specific duties, so previous podiatry experience certainly isn’t expected.

Previous medical reception, administration or customer service experience is helpful, but healthcare experience isn’t essential. The right attitude, reliability and willingness to learn matter a lot to us.

About the Opportunity

Podiatry Assistant roles are an evolving part of podiatry practice, providing practical support to podiatrists while giving people with allied health training the opportunity to use and develop their skills.

At New Step Podiatry, the role combines podiatry assistance, clinic support and general administration, with responsibilities depending on your qualifications, training and experience.
It can be a great fit for someone completing an Allied Health Assistance qualification or a podiatry student wanting to gain valuable experience while they study.

What You’ll Get to Do

Your role may include:

• Preparing treatment rooms, equipment and materials for podiatry appointments.
• Assisting podiatrists with the preparation and finishing of orthotics, including applying top covers and making adjustments under direction.
• Supporting patients with podiatrist-prescribed exercise programs.
• Assisting with gait and other clinical assessments under the direction of a podiatrist.
• Instrument processing and sterilisation.
• Restocking treatment rooms and monitoring clinical supplies.
• Assisting with patient education and podiatry products.
• Helping with documentation, correspondence and other clinical administration.
• General reception and administration duties as part of the wider New Step Podiatry team.
• Depending on your podiatry studies, training and competency, there may also be opportunities to assist with or provide basic general podiatry care under the appropriate supervision.

As your skills and training develop, the role can develop with you.

Could You Be Our Next Podiatry Assistant?

To be considered for a Podiatry Assistant role at New Step Podiatry, you’ll need to be either:

• Completing or have completed a recognised Allied Health Assistance qualification, or
• Currently studying a podiatry degree.

We’re particularly interested in people who:

• Are friendly, reliable and organised.
• Enjoy working with patients and have excellent communication skills.
• Have strong attention to detail and can follow clinical instructions carefully.
• Are comfortable combining practical podiatry tasks with general administration and reception duties.
• Take initiative and enjoy being part of a team.
• Are interested in developing their knowledge and skills within podiatry.
• Are willing to obtain any checks, credentials and vaccinations required for the role.
  For podiatry students who have successfully completed at least their first year of study, the scope of the role may include additional podiatry-related duties appropriate to your training and competency.

About the Opportunity

Looking for somewhere to complete your podiatry placement and see what private practice is really like?

New Step welcomes podiatry students for clinical placements in our Canberra practice. You’ll have the opportunity to observe and get involved in a broad range of podiatry, learn from experienced podiatrists and see the day-to-day workings of a busy private practice.

What You’ll Get to Experience

Depending on your stage of study, university requirements and the patients attending during your placement, you may gain exposure to:

• Musculoskeletal and biomechanical assessments.
• Gait analysis, including our Zebris treadmill gait analysis system.
• Paediatric podiatry.
• Ingrown toenail care including toenail bracing and nail surgery.
• General foot and nail care.
• Diabetes-related foot care.
• Orthotic assessment, prescription, troubleshooting and manufacturing.
• Shockwave and photobiomodulation therapy.
• Swift microwave therapy.
• 3D foot scanning and CAD/CAM orthotics.
• Patient education and exercise prescription.
• The day-to-day operation of a private podiatry practice.

You’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions, discuss clinical cases and learn from different podiatrists, each with their own experience, interests and approach to practice.

Who Can Apply?

Placements are available to podiatry students completing an approved university placement.
Placement availability will depend on our podiatrists’ capacity, your university requirements and the timing and length of the placement.
